Decal Application Techniques


Things you will need
1" roll Masking tape
Credit Card or squeegee
Spray bottle with mild soapy water
Paper Towels


Surface Preparation
The surface you are applying the decal to should be completely free of any debris. This includes wax, lint, dirt, grease. It is best to wash the surface with a mild soap solution and then completely dry with a lint free towel. Temperatures will affect the installation of vinyl. Install in temperatures between 45-90 F. Do not install in direct sunlight both of the below methods can be performed without the water but it is not recommended. Before applying firmly smooth down transfer tape to insure good adhesion to decal


Vertical Hinge Method
1. Position decal in desired position and tack in place with masking tape (See figure 1)
2. Apply masking tape vertically through the center of the decal (See figure 2)
3. Remove tack from one end, lay decal over towards center of tape hinge.
4. Lightly mist surface and decal with spray bottle. DO NOT DRENCH
5. Pull release liner away from application tape and legend toward the hinge.
6. Cut release liner with scissors and discard.
7. Squeegee down exposed half of decal.
8. Remove the tack and hinge and lay the other half over.
9. Remove the rest of the release liner and squeegee into place.



Horizontal Hinge Method
1. Position decal with tacks. (See figure 1)
2. Apply masking tape horizontally across top of decal (See figure 3)
3. Remove tacks
4. Flip decal over and remove release liner.
5. Lightly mist surface and decal with spray bottle. DO NOT DRENCH
6. Holding both sides of the bottom of the decal, lay over on surface.
7. Using as little pressure as possible, smooth entire decal into place with hands or squeegee.
8. Squeegee downward from hinge and increase pressure from center outward in all directions.
9. Remove hinge and squeegee again.



"Eye Ball" Method
1. Draw a baseline and either a vertical center or edge mark on application tape.
2. Mark corresponding lines on surface.
3. Lightly mist surface and decal with spray bottle. DO NOT DRENCH
4. Position decal in place by lining up marks.
5. Lightly squeegee to remove most liquid and set in place.
6. Squeegee from center outward in all directions gradually increasing pressure.
7. Allow to dry. drying time will vary with temperature, amount of solution and surface material.
8. Remove application tape and squeegee again.
